Are you looking to try out a new hobby that will keep you in the habit of getting outdoors? Hobbies are a fantastic way to dedicate some leisure time to pursuing outdoor activities.
From beekeeping to paddleboarding, we have pulled together a variety of outdoor activities that you can get stuck in to.
Hiking
Hiking is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the outdoors. Transported by your own two feet and carrying only what you need for the day on your back, you can discover the beauty of nature at whatever pace you’re comfortable with. For beginners, you can begin hiking on level terrain trails or footpaths. For the more advanced, try out long, vigorous walks up Glastonbury Tor or Cheddar Gorge.
Camping
Whether you are an experienced camper that enjoys long backcountry hikes, or you just want to try something new with the family in the great outdoors, camping is a fantastically fun hobby for all friends and family involved! Blessed by our beautiful county, we are rich with beautiful camping spots all around Somerset.
Beekeeping
If you care about nature, gardens, and saving the environment, beekeeping is the perfect hob-bee! As you’ve probably heard, the bee population is declining at rapid rates. Research shows that developed land doesn’t provide the foraging and nesting sites that pollinators need to survive, and because of this, hobby beekeeping is growing in popularity. Save the bees!
White Water Rafting
If you’re looking for a great outdoor adventure, look no further than white water rafting. Aside from the exercise you will get from paddling, you’ll also be working your muscles as you’re continually maintaining your balance in your raft! A great family day out.
Couch to 5k
The Couch to 5K is an excellent training plan that takes newbies to form their couch to running a 5K—3.1 miles. Download the training program, choice of coaches and progress tracker that has helped thousands of beginning runners move from the couch to the 5K finish line!
Paddleboarding
Stand up paddle boarding (SUP) offers a fun way to play on the water, with the added benefit of a full-body workout. And, since you stand at full height on your board, it gives you a unique vantage point for viewing what’s down under the water and out on the horizon.
Spend some time enjoying nature, and gain some serious health benefits from the fresh air.
